Would You Go To Physical Therapy If Your RA Wasn't Under Control?

I'm currently on Humira, which does not work for me so I have to take methylprednisolone as well. I'm waiting for a Rituximab infusion on September 28. I know PT should help with my pain, but I'm afraid it will make it worse if I go now with a medicine that doesn't work. Also, I have a rotator cuff injury that turned into adhesive capsulitis from last summer that I never went to PT for because I ended up with COVID and then changed medications to Humira, which like I said doesn't work. I only… read more

🤔 This is a great question. I have read many stories of people here that have gone to PT and felt it helped them. You need to get those joints moving even if they are painful. You have to move the inflammation out of them and to your blood stream to be flushed out. There is also a chemical effect in doing exercise or stretching that happens in our body. After doing these things we should feel a little better. Our mood will also improve.
PT therapists have a lot of education under their belt. Obviously you’ll report to them your current state of health and what your personal goals are while attending PT. Then I often feel like it comes down to ‘personalities.’ Will you like that person, Will they listen to you and your needs, etc.
I hope some of these insights may help you. 🤗

Thank you so much for responding. I work at a desk job. It is really hard when my hands, fingers, wrist, shoulders or elbows hurt. I don't like taking pain meds but I don't have a high threshold for pain. What I might feel is a 10 on the pain scale others may think a 3 or 4. I just can't take the pain. If I were home I could heating pad on what area hurts or get in a hot tub of water and soak. Its just terrible. I'm 55 years old and I just can't see myself suffering like this day in and day out.

Deborah may I ask if you are on disability? My flares have been so bad lately that I am in constant pain. I also have bursitis and osteoarthritis. I am now being tested to see if I may have Paget's Disease. I just feel that If am diagnosed with that also I may try and get on disability.

Thank you both! That truly helps a lot. Hearing this makes my fears subside and I plan to get started as soon as possible. :)
