Members overwhelmingly confirmed that fatigue is one of the most challenging and common symptoms of RA, often described as being hit by a freight train or bus, with many finding relief through naps, rest, sunshine exposure, and addressing vitamin deficiencies like B and D. Several members shared practical strategies for managing hand flares, including Pennsaid drops, resting splints, ice packs, vibrating massage balls, and cortisone injections, with many noting that hand pain often signals an incoming flare. A recurring theme was the frustration of balancing debilitating fatigue with work expectations, the guilt around needing rest, and the relief of recognizing patterns in their bodies through shared community experiences.

Yes, it is terrible. I feel like I need 10 hours of sleep a night, and cannot think at work for the first couple of hours. The pain in my neck has been bothering me, so not sure if that is contributing. I have an appt at the end of the month for a cortisone shot. I hope that will help. But, yes, feeling exhausted all the time is exhausting in itself.

I saw my Rhumy this morning. She said the number 1 complaint with RA is fatigue, Recommended aerobic 20-30 min a day. I wish I had the time/energy. When I go hybrid I will have the opportunity to walk during lunch hour.

I am NOT trying to be a commercial, but if you have knee (or other problems-see website). This (expensive) sandal, has provided me with no cortisone shots for almost a year. Z-coil

Hi Sherry, fatigue is one of the most common things with RA. It can hit like a freight train and without needing a reason why. The only thing that works for me is naps, as much and as many as needed. I used to feel guilty about that but not anymore.

Hi Sherry - That sounds miserable. So sorry. Fatigue is part of RA. Rest and plenty of water may offer some relief.
