How Do You Feel About Artificial Intelligence Used For Customized Medication To Treat Your RA?
This trial-and-error method of treatment needs to be revised into a customized treatment for the patient population. We as patients should not just have symptom control, we should have a cure. It is time for science to step up the research for RA.
Current therapy concepts focus solely on symptom control and the prevention of disease progression. The downside of this concept is the need for potentially lifelong therapy. But what if the disease were truly curable? In the future, the cure of… read more
I think that using AI is premature. So many diseases are autoimmune and the research is lacking although it is far better than I ever thought it would be when I was diagnosed 25 years ago. Research has brought us many medications. I was hoping that the progress on genetics would help find why people get autoimmune disorders and how to fix it. I would be glad if someone figured out which medication fit the genetic makeup so people could go immediately to the medication that would help them best instead of trial and error.
We shouldn't be using AI for anything important, as all it does currently is regurgitate what is already on the web according to probability without regard to its quality. You identified the problem, research is only focused on symptom control and prevention of disease progression, in the hopes of coming up with new versions of drugs of the types we already have. All autoimmune diseases have at their root a systemic communication problem. To my knowledge (and correct me if I'm wrong) no one is conducting any research on what happens to cause that and why. As for a cure, lifelong treatment is far more profitable than curing anything, and as long as profit is the motive, cures aren't the priority.
Our RA doctor said he MIGHT do the PRISM test for hubby if the MTX does NOT work. It it is "supposed" to tell the doctor which med will work best for a patient. Developed by an AI company and Pfizer just bought another AI company. As I told you they got their sample base ONLY from Pfizer instead of ALL . Too many people, at this point ,are jumping into AI. Just like the ".com" bubble, it would have to weed out the fraudsters. My whole carrier was in IT. It IS the way of the future but I think "slow and easy" wins the race. Mammos are great once they developed machines for it, especially 3-D. A Radiologist MD confirms the findings. . Hence, I think that one can NOT solely rely on machines without doctor(s) confirming.
Money and profit are two huge deciding factors on what is done.
All of you have great opinions and knowledge about all of this AI subject. I'm a little iffy about it all. On the other hand with all the meds the doctors try on us to find the right one, would it be any different to take the chance and see if it's right? I tried all of the meds available before biologics, now I'm on my 4th biologic in a year. I don't know whether the disease or the meds have done more damage to my body. I'm an old fashioned person, but right now I think I'd try it.
