What Would You Do Next Since I Don't Think My Medication Is Working?
Turning to the hive mind here. I've been on methotrexate for several months (I was only recently diagnosed with RA) and I don't think it's working. When I first went to the rheumatologist, it was because my elbows and fingers were throbbing so much that it was waking me up at night, and my feet hurt when I get out of bed. Now I'm not being woken up by the throbbing, but my fingers, toes, and feet still hurt. I started off on 4 pills. Now I'm up to 6. In your experience, should I change… read more
Hi Nicole, I am also taking Methotrexate. For me it took 5 months to start working and is different for everyone. I started with 10 pills once a week along with folic acid and am no taking 4 pills per week. Maybe it will take longer than 2 months to start working for you. Keep in contact with your rheumatologist with your progress.
@A myRAteam Member Discuss it with your doctor at your next visit which should be right about the time that you have to give MTX to work (12 weeks). If you feel less RA symptoms then it is working. PATIENCE is the name of the game. You will NEVER roll the clock back. My hubby has been on MTX for about a year after his body started to reject Cimzia which was his first drug since he has Psoriatic Arthritis, also. He uses Voltaren cream (OTC) which you can get the generic either CVS or Amazon. This is what I have found. "Methotrexate is often the first-line treatment to control symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, reduce inflammation, and prevent permanent joint damage. Your symptoms should improve within 3 to 6 weeks of starting methotrexate, but it could take 12 weeks or longer to see the full benefit.Sep 19, 2022

I'm on methotrexate too. I don't like the way it affects my brain so I had my doctor lower the dosage, but I was on 6 pills a week. My blood work came back good, but my joints were still stiff and swollen. So my doctor added an anti-inflammatory pain medicine. He added Diclofenac pills twice a day. Perhaps you could ask for an anti-inflammatory pain medication. Also I take turmeric with black pepper supplements every day too.
too many pills excise is better harder but better the pills u take is hard on liver and kidneys lol better off drinking burbon
Thanks all. The doctor added Humira and it seems to basically do the trick. Get a skin reaction though. 3 inches of a circumference. Also some occasional pain (no way near what it was before) when it is raining.
