My herniation was the L4/L5. I chose not to have any surgery of any type. It was a couple of months before the hideous pain started getting better and I walked with a cane for about a year. I do still have numbness going down the side of my lower leg. I was able to take Gabapentin for about a year before it started causing me problems. Actually, I have problems with a lot of pain meds. Tell your Husband good luck …..

Do you know which disc/dics are herniated? I want my hubby to have ablation, and he is NOT interested/fearful of doing it. I wish he could get off the Gabapentin because of the side affects. .

After I herniated a disc about 20 years ago, I had dropped foot for about a year and still experience it a little. I didn’t develop Neuropathy in my feet until after I was diagnosed with RA. My Rheumy said it was mostly likely from the RA. Plus I had to go off of Leuflonomide because it caused Neuropathy in my legs. I was only on it for about a month and am so thankful the Neuropathy in my legs went away. Unfortunately, I can’t take Gabapentin anymore because of a bad reaction to it and can only go up to about 40MGs of Cymbalta before I start having reactions.

MY hubby has neuropathy, most likely from his multiple back issues. A list of about 25 conditions due to his injuries and being a dentist. I know that RA CAN cause neuropathy. He gets a dropped foot unless he is on 600 milligrams of Gabapentin daily.
