Mtx

A myRAteam Member asked a question πŸ’
Central FL

I just read an article on healthline that says mtx can cause rv, rheumatoid vasculitis. A narrowing of blood vessels. I find it interesting that the doctor who told me that I had avascular necrosis in my right hip never mentioned that mtx could be a cause. I’d ask him about this but he changed to a different practice.

You've probably heard this a million times from me but mtx is very hard on your system. It is a low dose chemo. I couldn't take it. Too many side effects! I home you get your answers. You could ask your pharmacist if yo can't get a hold of a rheumatologist. Good luck! πŸ’ž

Very interesting and confusing indeed. Some doctors mentioned to me that prednisone has too many health risks, also that it damages the organs. So changed my meds to Mtx....was taking it for ant 7yrs. Early this year was making my tummy sick/discomfort feeling. Prednisone seems to work better... so here I am still confused πŸ˜• πŸ™ƒ

Joanne- why do we have sweat glands?
Sweating rids our body of toxins and salts. But I bet you drink a lot of water possibly some electrolytes, to keep from getting dehydrated.

I would ask for thyroid tests, ask about any heart meds or anti-depressants you may take. I would also count cups of caffenated beverages a day. Bc caffeine makes me sweat. Ask to be referred to an endocrinologist? Maybe kidney or pancreas are being stressed?

In any case, whatever is causing that is more bothersome for females than males. Make your doctors find out and fix it. Let them know how serious it is to YOU.

Charlene- yes Steroids can be bad for some ppl bit the doctor must know the patients full history and have complete labs available to determine if a patient should receive them or not. For instance alcoholism is a big factor as well as genetics and different medication conflictions. This link may be helpful too. Ive been great full for having the excellent benefits of steroids for about 15 years now from pills to iv or epidural or triggerpoint injections. My relief is instantaneous and long lasting. Bit the misery is intolerable sometimes. My beautiful older sister has been ravaged by severe psoriatic-osteo and rheumatoid arthritis and she also depends on steroids to arrest her RA. We are not afraid to keep using them bc the disease will wreck stuff anyway if we don't. Ours moves around. Guts, thyroid, skin, tendons, whatever it lands on. I dont think the percentage of ppl who suffer this is very high. I do think clarity and more testing would be more beneficial for new recipients or at risk patients. I was abt 50 yrs old when I got my first doses. But good point you brought up.
