Supplement B13

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Parksville, BC

My B12 level was very low so I’m taking supplements. My doctor told me I can stop taking it soon. Not to take it everyday but I read up on it and it says you can take it everyday. Any thoughts on this?

Members shared varied experiences with B12 supplementation after someone questioned their doctor's advice to stop daily use, with most emphasizing that B12 is generally safe for daily use and beneficial for brain fog, neuropathy, and overall health as we age. Several members described their own routines, including some taking B12 complex daily while others adjust frequency based on blood work, with one member noting they take prescription-strength B vitamins only three times weekly to avoid levels getting too high. A recurring theme was the importance of regular blood work monitoring, coordinating care between primary doctors and rheumatologists, and being your own advocate by asking questions about why medications or supplements are being changed.

Plugs especially your brain tends to get foggy and B Complex vitamins helps with that foggyness. I have been taking it for years and I think it really helps.

Is your RA doctor ok with that? My GP is the one who told me not to take it everyday

Shelly,
It is a good thing when your doctor tells you that you can reduce or quit a med or supplement. It means your doc is really paying attention to your bloodwork. B12 is iron, so you do not want your levels too high and it sounds like your supplement has improved your levels.
I had the similar thing with D3, was taking 5,000iu every day, now I take it every other day. Our Rheumatologist watches our bloodwork, every 3 months, like a hawk..lol I am glad she does..keeps my daughter and me on the right path.
Please never hesitate to ask your doctor why they are reducing or changing a med or supplement.
I hope this helps.
