Does Anyone Have RA And OSTEPOROSIS

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

Have been on prolia for the last several years. Prolia is no longer working for my osteoporosis and dr is suggesting I try evenity.
In addition, the Dr wants to start me on hydroxchloroquine, Am concerned about the black box warnings on each.

I would love to know if anyone has been on both medications and did you experience any side effects as well as the dosage on the hydroxychloroquine.

Thank you

Chloe,

Sometimes the medication interactions are not worth it. Learn everything you can about RA and the medications prescribed. It's good you checked the drug interactions. My experience with Methotrexate was not good. The Pharmacist mentioned it may lower the effectiveness of my high blood pressure medication. This happened to me and I had stroke symptoms. I stopped it immediately.

Have that conversation with your doctor about everything you read and drug interactions. Supplements are good. I take calcium, Vitamin D, fish oil and a women's multivitamin.

Hope you get a medication that doesn't interact with your other medications.

8 weeks ago I was driving to have a pre anaesthetic check. I was planning to get a new hip. It will now never happen. While driving I felt a twinge in my back. By the time I got home I was in agony. This was Monday, I got a gp app Wednesday morning. I was immediately sent for X-rays. My gp rang me within hrs of X-ray. I have been diagnosed with compression fractures in my spine. From 7-10 are cactus. I have had treatment with lots of painkillers.
My life has done a 180 deg turn. I now have oesteoporosis. Never any sign before.
I have RA, Sjogrens, fibro & oesteoporosis. All my plans are haywire. I can lie down sometimes but mostly sitting my chair.
Please all ask, ask & ask some more. I go to my Rhuemy next week. Hoping for a miracle. Stay strong & love you all. Thanks

Maggie,
Currently I don't have any pain, but the dr wants to start me on plaquenil now based on a recent study that said the earlier you start treatment, the less damage that you will have. I am currently taking supplements, tumeric, ginger, zinc, fish oil and vitamin d and I have blood work taken every 3 months as well as a vectra test every 6 months.
I also forgot to mention that I take buproprion(brand name wellbutrin) and everything that I have read says that taking that drug with the plaquenil is not recommended. I have appt this week and will see what he says.
Good luck with rituxan.
