I'm Wondering If Anyone Has Experienced DENTAL ISSUES??

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I lost a tooth so the dentist decided to do an implant. To prepare the tooth they put cadaver dust in for strength. This process took a very long time and I never received the implant. My body rejected it. I asked the dentist if R.A. was in my patient chart and he replied no. I've read that certain drugs can cause your jawline to diminish. So . . Any experiences with dental issues you can share? Thanks!

I'm glad you posted about the implant. I have lost most of my upper back teeth due to Sjorgren's & RA. I asked my dentist, endodontist and rheumatologist about implants, which I would love to have (although really cannot afford) Insurance doesn't cover them. All were honest to say that they are hard pressed to advise me to have them. My rheumatologist actually went so far as to look for studies regarding implants & Sjorgrens/RA and there is no data. We have decided not to move forwards with implants because there is a pretty good possibility that my body would reject them. I now have an upper partial plate which I detest but at least I can chew.

If you have osteoporosis & are on any of the drugs for it, they can cause loss if bone in the jawline.

I had to have a molar pulled last week because it cracked in half and dentist was unable to save it. (Free facility because I do not have insurance as of this month) I have always taken very good care of my teeth my whole life, braces and all and this is very devastating to me.

I have RA & Sjogren's syndrome, which has caused me to lose 3 back teeth. I now have a dental plate (which I hate) Initially, the dentist was talking about implants but she wanted me to talk to my rheumatologist about it. My doctor said that there is just not enough info out there. It was exactly about rejecting the implant that the decision was made with my dentist not to proceed. I still think that it was the correct decision.

Well unfortunately I lost all my teeth because of my RA. I take Grass fed cow collagen and it builds bone up and nails and hair and so many other things that it helps. Try that for at least six months and then find another dentist.
