Members shared a wide range of strategies for managing methotrexate-related nausea, with the most common recommendations being switching from pills to injections (which many found gentler on the stomach), taking the medication at bedtime to sleep through side effects, and using ginger ale, ginger or peppermint tea, lemon water, or anti-nausea wristbands like Seabands. Several members emphasized the importance of daily folic acid supplementation to reduce side effects like nausea and hair loss, with some taking higher doses or adding biotin to support hair regrowth. A recurring theme was the variability of individual experiences, as some members had minimal side effects while others faced severe gastrointestinal issues, weight loss, and nutrient deficiencies that required switching medications entirely.

I take Methotrexate five 2.5 mg. one day a week. I take it at bedtime and I don't have any side-effects. I have never had any nausea. I take Folic Acid every day. I think it helps me to avoid any bad side-effects from the Methotrexate. I take Biotin to help with the hair. I have taken the Biotin ever since I had chemo 10 years ago for breast cancer. My hair came back thicker and stronger with the Biotin. I avoided taking Methotrexate for a long time but I figured it was nothing compared to the chemo sessions so I agreed to try it. I am glad that I did. It has helped me with my RA a lot. Methotrexate itself is a form of chemo but nothing like the rounds of infusions. I hope you find this helpful. Good luck with whatever you chose to do.

I don't really have any side effects, I just don't think it's working for me. my dr said if at Next appt blood work still shows progression she wants to add enbrel shot 1x week to my methotrexate . I've been in a lot of pain for months. I called dr office and they called me in a prescription for methylprednisone, 4mg taper down pack. So low dose and short term but it's really helping. It's pretty amazing
