If You Don't Have Insurance Can You Get Humira/Enbrel, Meds At A Discount, Rheumatologist

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

So I may be losing my job. Of course I'm concerned with my medical situation and was curious if anyone has suggestions about Enbrel/Humira other meds or the rheumatologist how that would work. Obviously all the medications are overly expensive, extremely priced and the specialist isn't cheap. Thanks any suggestions or ideas. Wishing you a good today and a better tomorrow

My rheumatology clinic has always been helpful with checking on patient assistance programs for me, even when I had good insurance.

Many of the drug companies have patient assistance. Xeljanz is one, there are several. Check out the company's website for help with medications.

2. Nonprofit Organizations: Nonprofits may offer financial assistance for medications, travel costs, and other expenses. They can help offset health insurance copays, coinsurance, premiums, and deductibles if you meet their eligibility criteria.

3. GoodRX.com: This website allows you to compare prices at pharmacies near you and get coupons, which can sometimes make medications cheaper than using insurance.

4. Payment Plans: Hospitals and medical facilities might offer low-interest or interest-free payment plans to help break your invoice into smaller payments over time.

5. Community Support: Reach out to your social network or community, including religious organizations, which might have funds set aside to help with medication costs.

6. Rheumatology Nurses: Nurses often know various ways to help you find medications for cheaper or even for free. They can provide valuable advice and resources.

Remember to always check the eligibility requirements for any assistance program and reapply annually if needed.

My doctors office has a program where they accept medications that didn't work for someone and they use them for individuals that can't afford the treatment. I have donated a bunch of my injections when they didnt work out. It never hurts to ask. Definitely tell them of your situation. They may know of programs that can help.
