Methotrexate

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I’m going to start taking methotrexate this week but was wondering about drinking I like to have a glass or two of wine a evening with dinner. What’s everyone experience on drinking, really worried about the side affects of these tablets, any help much appreciated.

If you want my experience as I was one of the people in the test groups when methotrexate was first converted from only blood cancer into rheumatoid arthritis treatments as well, if you’re going to drink anything alcohol on methotrexate prepare yourself and your family and friends for your death from liver cancer. Make sure if you don’t know someone that has passed away from liver cancer that you at least look into it so you understand what will be ahead of you.
And yes for my churchgoing friends that includes that teeny weenie cup of communion wine!
Jesus loves you more than enough that you can just have grape juice instead of wine!
I can tell you I have had a belly full of death from peoples need for alcohol when they are on any chronic disease treatments that you see advertised on TV every night as the liver has enough load to unloading these drugs from your system let alone having to contend with our need for alcohol. My encouragement:
Don’t miss the beauty. 🌹
Life is worth the changes that will bring growth in making a new diet regime. The alternative will only be difficult.

Alcohol and Methatrexate don't mix well. Just a wee bit of wine will have you so sick. Throwing up for quite a while. The drug really kicked me and I ended up not being able to take it because it made me so sick. However everyone if different and some people have no problems at all with the drug.

I was told to not drink on the day i take my pills. I do have a couple drinks about once a week but not on pill day. My blood tests show liver just fine.

If you enjoy it then do it! It won’t hurt you from what I’ve been told. Make sure you keep up with blood work and don’t binge drink, lol.
