I had my first shot. I had a slightly sore arm for 1 day. Otherwise, no side effects. I had Moderna.

I am supposed to take my first vaccine injection Friday. I take Methotrexate. I need to call the Rheumatologist to see if I should skip it this week in case it effects the antibodies in the vaccine. I already had Covid but still want the vaccine because I guess you can catch it again in 4 months or so. Usually they claim there are no side effects with the first injection. The 2nd has mild to moderate side effects of body aches, possible fever, and pain at the injection site.

Here is some detailed information about COVID-19 vaccines and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on the knowledge base:

- Vaccination Recommendation:
- Most people with inflammatory arthritis conditions such as RA are recommended to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
- The American College of Rheumatology strongly recommends vaccination for people with autoimmune and rheumatic diseases due to the overwhelming benefits.

- Safety and Effectiveness:
- COVID-19 vaccines, including Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson, are considered safe, effective, and low-risk for most people with autoimmune and rheumatic conditions.
- None of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the U.S. are live vaccines, meaning they cannot infect you with the coronavirus.

- Medication Considerations:
- Some RA medications may reduce the effectiveness of the vaccination. The American College of Rheumatology recommends adjusting the timing of certain medications:
- Methotrexate: Hold for one week after each vaccination dose.
- JAK inhibitors (e.g., Rinvoq, Xeljanz): Hold for one week after each vaccination dose.
- Rituximab: Specific timing adjustments may be needed; consult your doctor.

- Immune System and RA:
- Some treatments for RA may lower your immune system, so it’s wise to check with your doctor to see if your medication and dose qualify you as having a suppressed immune system.
- RA can affect lung health, so staying up to date with vaccinations, including the COVID-19 vaccine, is important.

- Personal Experiences:
- Some members of myRAteam have shared their experiences with vaccination, with some having received multiple doses without significant issues.

- Consulting Your Doctor:
- Always work closely with your doctors when deciding the best plan and timing for your vaccines.
- If you have had significant reactions to vaccinations in the past, speak with your doctor to see if it makes sense to get vaccinated.

For more detailed guidance, always consult your healthcare provider.

I saw the doctor today. She told me to skip Metheltrexate the week before, the week of, and the week after the 2nd covid vaccine is due. She said they have been given no information on what an immunity compromise should do. She wants to make sure the vaccine works for me. I'm fairly sure I'll be in full flare up by that time. I am going to follow her advice.

I called the Dr. and his nurse said to skip Methotrexate for a week. I only take it once a week. They think that gives the antibodies a chance to work.
