Sensitive Feet

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I can not walk without shoes my feet feel like I'm walking on rocks also my legs and feet feel like someone is scraping them at the slightest touch. Is this part of RA?
I can only wear flip flops. I can't wear anything closed in not even slippers.
Thank you

Inspect your feet daily looking for blisters. Drs will assume you have diabetes. There are several drugs that can help with neuropathy: gabapentin and Lyrica.
The pain is from inflammation of your nerves in the feet. Strange that something which robs you of feeling also causes great pain. You’d be well advised to get orthotics and good supportive shoes. My neuropathy turned into Charcot Foot and I am having left foot amputated next month due to intractable ulcers and consequent infections. Now the skin is so broken down it cannot heal. So believe me when I say if you have neuropathy inspect your feet daily and wear appropriate footwear.

I have neuropathy in both feet. Sometimes so bad I want to cry. They are so tender yet my toes are so numb that if I don't watch someone touching them I don't know they are. My tests still have a normal range. But the rheumatologist says I may be one that the tests don't show I have RA.

I do the same and my RA doc said its Neuropathy and My RA together . I cant even stand covers on my feet. Feels like burning and stinging . I find that the medicaid’ed socks in the pharmacy helps some but nothing really takes it away. Also lidocaine patches also help from the doc.

My foot went south first, before I knew I had RA. My whole arch fell. I have to have custom inserts made to walk in anything & it seems good athletic shoes work best for me. I hope you find a shoe that helps. It’s awful to not walk correctly. That’s a good way to tell the back to go.
