Does Anyone Have Soreness Above The Jaw Bone (between Cheekbone And The Front Of The Ear)?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Roseville, CA

I started experiencing soreness on the right side of my face (above the jaw bone/s). It feels very sore to open my mouth in the morning when I wake up. The soreness decreases as the day go by but it’s always there every morning.

I have TMJ and it started when I ate a very high sandwich. It comes and goes but I never contributed it to anything but TMJ. This is interesting...

My dentist thought I had TMJ because of my symptoms like this. Turns out it was Sjogrens. It attacks the parotid glands and cause a lot of pain on the jaw that can radiate into your cheeks. They started me on hydroxychloraquin and methotrexate. I don't have mucj of a problem with it anymore unless I am in a flare. It is so painful when it happenes it makes my eyes tear up when I have to move my mouth.....I hope you can find some relief!!!

I have it and think it is TMJ I was eating a very large sandwich and noticed this started a few days later. I did message my medical doctor about it just to get his thoughts. But, I think it is probably TMJ Look it up - You treat it with ice and ibuprophen or can get a mouthguard if it continues

I have exactly the same pain, mainly on the right. Also intermittent sharp pain deep inside the ear. I believe it is related to salivary gland and/or swollen lymph nodes below jaw. It is quite painful and no med seems to help. If you look at a diagram of where your salivary glands are located and gently massage them, they may empty and give you some relief.
