Has Anyone Not Been Able To Tolerate Methotrexate?

I was diagnosed in January with high severity RA. I was put on once a week methotrexate. I took it for 8 weeks with terrible fatigue, stomach pain and diarrhea. I’ve told my dr and he said it wasn’t the medicine. So I had fever and even more stomach issues so I asked if I’m sick I skip a week? He said yes. I felt great and skipped one extra week. No fatigue and more energy. Felt like My old self. Didn’t want to take it again but pain and inflammation were worsening. Took it again and I’ve slept… read more

@A myRAteam Member i have been taking leflunomide for about 7 months with no side effects. The headaches are pretty bad at first but after about a few weeks they stop completely! I love it! I also take it right before bed

Try taking it as an injection. They are small needles, so not a huge deal. No gastro issues that way I found. I switched several years ago.

I developed Methotrexate toxicity that caused.me to develop life threatening bacterial infection in lungs. ICU stay and near intubation was quite a scare and led to eventual septicemia. Was in and out of hospital and rehab facilities and spent 1 day home in 14 weeks. This happened in 2012 and started my struggle with this terrible disease RA.

I couldn’t handle oral methotrexate. Lots of stomach issues. My Dr put me on injections. Even then I had to do smaller doses twice a week until I got used to it. Now I can tolerate a full dose

I started with oral methotrexate and had stomach pain, and diarrhea and severe nausea. I would take the methotrexate on Thursday and by Friday afternoon I would start with the stomach problems. They didn't believe it was the medicine either. So I finally told them I wouldn't take it anymore. So after being off the oral for a few weeks they started me on the injectable. I have not had any side effects of the injectable. But now they feel I need something added. So this week I added Remicade infusions to the methotrexate. We'll have to see what happens. So far so good.
