I took MTX for almost a year and a half. Dose was split up over two nights as all 8 pills at once was too much. Every weekend was spent feeling ill from this med. I felt nauseated and overwhelming exhaustion. It would take me till Wed night/Thursday to feel ok again then had to take the next dose Fri night. I tried to remain hopeful this med would work for me but could no longer take the side effects as I felt like I was poisoning myself each week. I finally gave in and rheumatologist agreed a change was needed. Now on Lefludomide (Avara) daily and not nearly feeling so many awful side effects... There are other choices besides MTX - I wish I had not wasted so much time and physical energy with it... It lefludomide does not continue to work well for me next step is biologics/injections...

There is a medication you can take with methotrexate that acts as an antidote to lessen the side effects. I tried it and it did not work for me. I also tried the injections without success also.

Yes, my side effects and day after sickness was too much so my doc switched me. There are drugs with less side effects to try.

I also take it by injection and that made a big difference in terms of nausea.
