Started Orencia And On Mtx Injections Along With Latent Tb Positive Antibiotics

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

For the last several days following my first infusion I have been woken up with a severe excruciating migraine. I can’t think or talk. I have been vomiting and get the sweats. Anyone dealt with this? I can’t continue to take my emergency migraine meds. Which seems to be the only thing that stops the pain. I don’t have a lot and my insurance only approves so many at a time. ER just pumps me up on toradal which doesn’t help at all. I need relief. I’m at witts end ! Any advice ?

So sorry you’re feeling so badly! At ER though, they should be giving a migraine cocktail i don’t know what they think Toradol alone will do... ive had chronic migraines since age 11, my normal go to at the ER if it gets that bad: Toradol at least 10mg, Benadryl always helps with migraines you can try at home too, Zofran, and if needed a steroid like solumedrol. Not sure what abortive you take but out of my four I normally choose Relpax with my ‘Omg what is THIS?!’ Migraines. Helps much better than the others and imitrex does nothing. Pray you’re better soon: def tell your doc!

It sounds like you're currently on Orencia (abatacept) and methotrexate (MTX) injections, along with antibiotics for latent tuberculosis (TB). Here are some important points to consider:

Orencia (Abatacept)
- Administration:
- Subcutaneous injection: Once a week.
- Intravenous infusion: First, second, and fourth weeks, then every four weeks.
- Common Side Effects:
- Headache
- Nasopharyngitis
- Dizziness
- Cough
- Serious Side Effects:
- Severe infections (including TB)
- Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, chest tightness)
- Increased risk of certain cancers

Methotrexate (MTX)
- Common Side Effects:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach pain
- Fatigue
- Serious Side Effects:
- Liver damage
- Lung disease
- Severe infections

Latent TB and Antibiotics
- Monitoring:
- Regular TB tests before and during treatment.
- Watch for signs of infection (fever, chills, cough, body aches).

Important Considerations
- Infection Risk: Both Orencia and MTX can increase the risk of infections. Be vigilant for any signs of infection and report them to your doctor immediately.
- Follow Doctor’s Instructions: Always adhere to the prescribed treatment plan and consult your healthcare provider for any concerns.

If you experience any severe side effects or signs of infection, contact your healthcare provider right away.

I read that headaches could be a side effect. Perhaps doing an infusion once a month is to much and you should try the weekly click ject self injection. That’s what I’m using and no headaches and easy to do, painless. Ask your doctor what they think. Hope this helps🙏

I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad! Whatever the case, make sure your doctor is involved. He or she should be able to make a case for you to get an override from the insurance company to get more meds.
