Members discussed the practical benefits of having both disabled parking plates and placards, with the overwhelming consensus being that plates work best for personal vehicles while placards provide essential flexibility when riding with others or switching cars. Several members shared their personal setups, including keeping one plate on their main vehicle and carrying a placard for trips to medical appointments, family outings, or any situation where they are passengers rather than drivers. A recurring theme was that both options serve different but equally important purposes, with many members emphasizing that having both eliminates the hassle of remembering to hang a placard while ensuring accessibility no matter whose vehicle they are in.

You need both. Plate for your car; placard when you’re in someone else’s

I have both because when I go for an epidural I can’t drive home so I use the placard for the person that’s driving me

I prefer the placard because if I ride someplace in someone else's vehicle I can take my placard with me. If I only have the plate than I can't use it in someone else's vehicle.
