Wow -- that's fascinating that he could move your retina so the blind spot would be in your peripheral vision! I know there has been research done with retinas of mice using stem cells. There are so many layers to the retina and because it's attached to the optic nerve, who knows if they'll ever be able to help people with serious retina conditions. On the brighter side, after I had my surgery (which was 30 years ago) I had several other complications including a retina bleed in my better eye. I was convinced that I would be blind by the time I was sixty. Well here I am still reading and typing (after two cataract surgeries as well). I have terrible night vision so I don't drive, but I've been able to see my son grow up and I can still see to do many of things I love. Of course, I'm worried about the RA attacking my eyes or having problems with the medications but for now I feel very blessed to still be seeing. I look at every new year of vision as icing on the cake of my life. Take care and keep me posted. I've added you to my team. Have a good evening!

I had a retina detach when I was 35 (30 yrs. ago) and it was completely due to nearsightedness. It's usually because people with myopia have long eyes instead of round ones and the retina is stretched too far. Because it isn't made of anything flexible is can detach. You must have had the surgery where they inject the gas bubble into your eye and I believe (unless I'm wrong) that you have to lie face down until the bubble pops and snaps your retina back on. When I had my surgery, the procedure you had wasn't out yet so I had a much more evasive form which I won't even describe. I know anything to do with surgery on the retinas is not fun!

Did you notice it after going on a new medication? Not specific to RA medication, but I've noticed medication can cause all types of side effects. Also, eye sight changes when you're pregnant (not to say you're pregnant) but maybe other conditions can affect your eye sight as well.

My eyes water all the time especially my right one. Was wondering if it’s caused by RA. My eye sight has gotten worse over the last 4 or 5 months. Seems like it just happened. Can’t see TV after being on iPad for a very short time.
