Members shared their varied experiences with methotrexate side effects, noting that nausea and headaches typically lasted from 24 to 48 hours, though some experienced symptoms throughout the week until their bodies adjusted over several weeks. Many members found relief by taking methotrexate before bed to sleep through side effects, spreading oral doses throughout the day with food, switching to injections to avoid stomach issues, and supplementing with folic acid, Leucovorin, and particularly biotin to help with hair loss and other symptoms. A recurring theme was the importance of patience during the adjustment period, working closely with rheumatologists to find the right dosage and timing, and trying different strategies like avoiding dairy on injection day to minimize discomfort.

It took me few weeks instead of taking in the morning I take it before bed so I’m sleeping threw most of the beside effects

I agree with taking it in the evening to sleep through the side effects. And give your body a few weeks to adjust.

That's a tough one. I find my response so unpredictable. Sometimes, I'm laid out for a whole weekend after the injection on Friday night. I have found that I have to avoid dairy on injection day and I take 5 mg the day after injection plus 1mg for the other six days. I like the biotin idea but I would prefer to get it naturally through eggs and bananas - French toast anyone?

I never got over daily headaches so I had to reduce my dosage. I did find that it's easier to gradually increase the dosage.
