Support Groups

Does anybody know of support groups in Toronto Ontario? Groups that you can actually meet people, I've done research looking into it and I can't seem to find any. I feel so alone because I don't know anyone who has rheumatoid arthritis and it would be great to relate to people and connect with them

There is the Arthritis Society. They have an office in Toronto. I do not know what they offer.
There website is www.arthritis.ca.

Hi Laurie 1985. I don't know of any specific support groups in Toronto with the exception of this website at the moment. I keep meaning to ask my rheumatologist and will promise to do so on my next visit. My limited experience is that it seems everyone has different experiences and/or triggers for their RA. I have just been recently diagnosed myself. I am looking at diet - anti-inflammatory foods and thinking of seeing a naturopath at some point. I have also been reading a lot on Clint Paddison's website - he had RA, but is now in remission. He has a very compelling message. Hopefully you have family and friends for support. This is critical. I know it can seem very lonely. Take care of yourself. Read up on this condition and remember to always advocate for yourself.

No support group in Kingston either. I just found this site. It would be great to have a Canadian group as well as often medications are different. I have done lots of research as well and it seems for every article that says to do one thing another article says not to do it. Looking into a variety of anti inflammatory diets as well and asked my rheumatologist who says there was no strong evidence to support that it made a difference. I saw a naturopath as well but they just wanted to sell me lots of supplements. Wary of how everything interacts. Feel like there isn’t a lot I can do other than take the drugs prescribed. They do seem to keep me under control for the most part. Methotrexate and humira. I just hate having to take medications for the rest of my life.
