DRINKING While Taking Methotrexate - You Won't Believe What My Dr Said !
My RA dr told me there is a new study and now people can have up to 4 drinks a day while taking Methatrexate. I told him that is literally INSANE. This came up when I agreed to take Methatrexate and asked about drinking wine. Meanwhile, on this drug 6 weeks and my SGOT level is up to 44 already from taking the drug. He said not to worry, it is from the Mexatrexate and not alarming at all. HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD OR READ ANYTHING LIKE THIS ABOUT alcohol and this drug ?
Mine said I can but no more than one a day or combined. According to the UK this is ok but in USA they say no. It is controversial and I have a couple drinks on happy hours or whatever once or twice a week and my blood work is good. Just don't overdo it!
According to the medical dictionary sgot is serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, an enzyme that is normally present in liver and heart cells. SGOT is realeased into blood when the liver or heart is damaged. The blood SGOT levels are thus elevated with liver damage (for example viral hepatitis) or with an insult to the heart (for example, from a heart attack). Some medications can also raise SGOT levels, SGOT is also called aspartate aminotransferase (AST).

I was on it for a few years and my RA doc said it was ok to have 4 drinks a week. I sometimes had more than that and my liver enzymes were always perfect!
I was on it a few years ago & my doctor said absolutely no alcohol.

What Are Everyone's Experience With Methotrexate? My RA Doc Just Prescribed It And I Start This Saturday. My Anxiety Is A Little Amped Up.
