Inconclusive Biopsy?
Hey guys,
Has anyone here ever had an inconclusive biopsy on a lymph node? If so, what did you do next?
A little background on my situation:
In January I had a needle biopsy done on a swollen lymph node under the right side of my jaw. I've had a problem with this one lymph node (or maybe it's a cluster of nodes, can't tell!) for a while now and it's still roughly the same size—not huge, but noticeable to me.
The results from the biopsy came back as inconclusive. My options are to have it… read more
I had a swollen lymph node just above my clavicle removed and biopsied. It came back as nonspecific inflammation, benign. This was in the mid 90's.
I don't have an answer for you, but every visit, keep telling your doc your concerns about that biopsy. Sometimes they just don't hear you. Tell them you need a solid answer. I have the same lymph node problem, no biopsy, but I bring it up everytime, and make note of it on my calendar. In fact, I make note of all rheumy visits. Mostly because my Rheumy acts like he doesn't hear me.
I'd have it removed. To me the less there is to swell up, get infected or get cancer the better. I am dealing with that right now. Best wishes to you.
So, are any of your labs abnormal? I have absolute lymphocytosis. (lymphocytes are pretty high) and enlarged lymph nodes on my chest and jaw area..I have had ct, mri, us, and lab work. I saw an oncologist and she said its a latent form of lymphoma. May never amount to anything, but I will see her at least 2x yearly, and she will see my labs every 3 months..So, I just wait and see I guess
I'm in the same situation as you. Have clusters of lymph nodes in my neck enlarged for almost two years now. The biggest are 3cm and 2.6cm.
I got one biopsed after my first ultrasound because they kind of freaked out wondering why they were enlarged. It was inconclusive.
Currently I just get regular ultrasounds to check for any changes. They haven't grown and the appearance of them on u/s is consistent with inflammation, not malignancy.
What do yours look like on ultrasound? If they are irregular I highly recommend a total removal of the node for testing. Needle biopsies are not able to diagnose lymphoma as they don't get enough tissue to test.
