Methotrexate Long Term Use.
Anyone else on methotrexate for many years? Have you ever heard that the routine blood work isn't enough and you need a liver biopsy? After having a colonoscopy recently, the doctor stated I should have a liver biopsy because of long term methotrexate. Anyone with experience with this? Thanks!
I took methotrexate for several years orally and for the last few years as weekly injections. I've never had or been told to have a liver biopsy. I've had several CAT scans over the years to make sure my lungs were functionally normally (I also have asthma) and no one has told me that my liver was an issue. I severely limit Tylenol and other pain medications so my liver does not become toxic with too much.
My mother has taken methotrexate for over 30 years and has never been advised to have liver biopsy. Once when her liver numbers were high she did have a CAT scan.
Thanks for all the info! I will.mention it when I go for my 6 months check up and blood work. But I am reassured. Happy holidays!
No I haven't heard that. I've been taking methotrexate for 6 years.
I've been on methotrexate going on five years but have blood test done twice a year to check the liver condition. So far no problems
