Actemra

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

Going into my question I know everyone is different my question is has any Dr.prescribed actemra knowing you have a lot of health issues that aren't even being addressed and the lower risk drugs you have tried always causes some kind of problem I seem to suffer problems such as listed under side effects now without drugs. Just between a rock and a hard place trying to decide if it's worth the high risk?

I have been on Actemra infusions monthly since Jan 2010 after failing all the RA drugs in a short time. I function well with minimal flares, occurring, which were unfortunately related to high stress. Most effective RA Med lasting this long that I have taken since diagnosis in 2002.
My doctor kept close watch on all my labs at each infusion, and modified my other meds accordingly. We worked very closely to minimize any progression of my RA.
I recently moved from NC to Here in AZ, and was delayed getting started with a new Rheumatologist, who I finally saw yesterday.
I feel very confident with him being my Rheumatologist, and it was worth the 3 month wait, however I had severe flare and flew back to NC and my previous Rheumatologist gave me an infusion to hopefully last til my next one is due.
So important to have a good working relationship with your Rheumatologist, one you can be open to and he in you, discuss what choices you have and report any symptom changes so he can manage you in a timely way.
This is the fourth Rheumy I have had since Diagnosis and been very fortunate to have received excellent care with all three previous ones, and was made to feel very comfortable with my newest one.
We definitely need new specialists in this area to help lower the shortage here in AZ, as I am sure we are needing around the world. I was very surprised when I learned of this shortage, after I got here. I plan to spread the word to all areas that I know who have Residency/Specialty Rheumatology studies in this field, that This beautiful state of AZ needs them!
Best of luck in your collaboration with your Rheumatologist @ MaxineSargeant, to determine what is your best treatment! Hugs!🤗

I am on Actemera for almost two years now. I amdoing great! My aches and pains are getting to s minimal. For the tight muscles that sounds like stress? Have you talked with your Dr about it? I am running into different things. Low white blood count and then low platelets. We deal with each as they happen. Hugs to both of you!

I would believe your Dr has checked whether or not you can tolerate the Actimera. I find I have faith in my Dr and trust his judgement with my Best interests being foremost. Ask your Dr about any doubts you may have, and decide if you want to follow his suggestion. Hugs!!!

Tight muscles are not stress. They are cause by polymyalgia rheumatic (PMR,)
