Medication With Needles / Needle Fear And Phobia Hints And Tips Please ?
Hi there today is my main medication day which is mtx - Methotrexate injection pen or more known as MetaJet I believe any way I always struggle with this ie hate it and suffer with mild needle phobia so wondering is there others out there who have same problem ??? & do you have any hints or tips to get over it or make it less painful/ tricky ??
I understand! I have always been terrified of needles and would avoid them at all cost. However, my options were to hurt or get over it. My hubby helped me some and I finally decided I would not let this hold me hostage. I was on Humira at the time and that booger hurts but I'd take a deep breath say a prayer and push the button. I now do Methotrexate injections weekly and actually have no problem with that. I can give myself subcutaneous injections like those but still can't do the ones in my muscles like B12. Hubby has to do that for me.
A few years ago I had use the Methotrexate injections but after a few months I had developed infection in the injected areas. It was very painful so I had to stop and went back to using the tablets again. I stil have the marks where the infection was......
I don't think there is any way to make it more comfortable. It's not that it hurts that bad, it's just that it makes my skin crawl doing it to myself. I have no problem giving someone else a shot. My son has severe allergies and when he was little I had to use an epipen on him. Also, I have no problem if someone else is sticking me with a needle. I've had many surgeries and I have a port for my monthly infusion.no problem. It's just sticking my self that actually makes me nauseated just thinking about it. Maybe try and get someone else to do it for you. Hope this helps.
I use the Humira injector pen every 2 weeks. Try different areas. Pick an area with a healthy amount to of fat, it hurts less I find. The anticipation of pushing the button is the hard part. Then count to ten!
@A myRAteam Member I was getting a localize reaction around the injection site - that first day the area around the site would be red and itchy but once I started taking those the irritation dismissed. I could also do a benadryl topical cream
