Does Anyone Take Gabapentin On A As Need Basis? It Was Prescriped To Be (300 Mg) To Be Taken At Bedtime. .

I have pmr along with the regular kind of arthritis as well as peripheral neuropathy. Pain is bad today but I understand gabapentin makes you loopy. My pain is mostly in my spine, neck and shoulders and of course all this leads to a pretty bad headache. My feet are really throbbing today to. Know the rain isn't helping. The only thing I am on is 10mg of prednisone. So should I take a gabapentin to get me through the day?!!!!!!!!

I take 600 mg gabapentin 3-4 times a day for neuropathy and nerve damage from a back surgery. 300 mg 1 x per day may not be enough for Your problem. You should talk with your Drs. Hope you feel better soon.

According to my GP the tiredness will go away once you have been taking it regularly for a few weeks. But I agree I did not like the way I felt in the am after taking one. So I didn't even try taking one during the day.

@A myRAteam Member 300mg is a large dose. I only take Lyrica 100mg in the evening. I would cut it down and see how you feel. Also, sometimes the side effects decrease the longer you are on a medication. No one knows how you are going to react to medications, not even doctors. Everyone is different and reacts differently. That is from years of experience personally and being a nurse for MANY years. Good luck.

I understand completely! Prednisone made me feel like I was in a fog all the time.
I remember now that I started with a very low dose of Gabapentin - 100mg a day (for a total of 300mg each day) at first. Maybe that helped me get used to it without getting so tired.... on the other hand, it may be that drowsiness is not a side effect for me.... I wish you luck finding a medicine that works for you.

Sounds like you need to be on other meds besides just the steroid. You might need to add methotrexate. Just remember that the gabapentin is great for the pain but it's not doing anything for the disease itself.
