Enbrel?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

My RA is not "controlled" my doctor said cause I am having a high amount of activity he wanted to put me on enbrel. Personally I don't want to do injections, I'm scared. But I am trying to up my methotrexate to 8 tables now...and still 2mg prednisone, but he says that if I get off methotrexate he said I will be able to get off prednisone which is what I want....but I feel cornered....I don't know what to do....

I could not tolerate Methotrexate due to the extreme nausea. I am now taking Rasuvo (methotrexate injections)
They are working great and without any nausea...only wish my Enbrel injections were as easy!

Shots are a little scary but lots of good info online on how to administer. I've given myself the shots but I prefer to have my husband do it! Assuming it works for you its well worth the hassle and you only need to deal with the injection 1x a week. Good luck ...

Hi Tabb,
I went off of the prednisone 6 weeks ago and have lost about 7lbs and the puffiness is going away. Unfortunately the pain has been pretty bad. My doc has me on 400 mgs of Plaquenil and I take 8 Methotrexate a week, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I am going to see him on Tuesday. I, too, am nervous about starting injections, but I have heard really good things about Embrel and Humeria. Embrel really helped my Aunt and my brother. I wouldn't mind trying Zeljans because it is a biologic in a pill form. Maybe you could ask about it.

@A myRAteam Member I had nothing happening with Enbrel either good or bad! The better controlled your RA no matter what you're taking, the less need for prednisone. I'm doing really well right now on Orencia and Plaquenil and haven't needed any prednisone since mid-May praise the Lord. Praying the Enbrel will work well for you!

I'm surprised he wants to take you off methotrexate and steroids. Usually the steroids are eliminated when the methotrexate is added and the methotrexate usually continues with a biologic. The shots aren't bad. You get used to them. And, if you don't want to give them to yourself, perhaps you could have the nurse at the rheumy's office do it for you,
