Pain Doctor
How exactly does a pain management doctor work? Not getting the concept...
Depends where you live and what you want out of it........ In the UK there are pain management clinics and they take an holistic approach so will look at lifestyle, exercise, diet, as well as medication. My friend is having a cutting edge treatment in Cardiff South Wales, using what sounds like a tens machine but they use keyhole to treat specific nerves. But they will try all other options first and you are likely to be told to lose weight and exercise. Which from other posts seems to upset some people with RD.
If you go to one let us know what your experience is.
I was referred to Pain Management by both my RA and primary. The purpose of pain management is to do just that, to determine what meds can be used alone or in tandem with cortisone injections, etc. to help with pain. Most doctors (RA and primary) don't or can prescribe narcotics and that's where the pain management docs come in. Hope that helps!
Ask your primary doctor to give you a referral for a pain management consult. I think most insurance companies cover it. You work with this doctor as a team. The doctor I see is really committed to working to get you comfortable using interventions that may not include opiates.
I am a nurse practitioner and really had no idea how this worked until I had to have it in my plan of care. I recommend that you check it out
Most other doctors will no longer give rx for pain meds. Pain docs do.
I'm in Florida and go to pain management once a month. We also use the Tenn's unit, physical therapy ect. Most folks have already gone through unsuccessful surgeries and now rely on pain pills along with steroid injections. We have very strict rules. For instance we can't get pain medicine from any other dr. aka dentist. It's a blessing to have the opportunity to be out of pain for a while.
Shoulder Pain.
RA And Prednisone?
Ra Does Affect Mental Health But Why Do Doctors Only Want To Give You More Drugs. Drugs Is Not The Answer.
