Enbrel

A myRAteam Member asked a question šŸ’

I went to my rheumatologist today. I will be adding Enbrel to my treatment plan as soon as insurance approves. I am currently on methotrexate injections and prednisone. The goal is the get off prednisone when I start the Enbrel. Has anyone had any luck getting off prednisone? How long did it take?

@A myRAteam Member I'm praying Enbrel gives me some relief! I haven't started them yet. The injections are over 300$ per week, my insurance pays 80% and then my doctor gave me a Enbrel card which brings my copay down to 10$ a week. I couldn't imagine doing this without insurance!

My doctor said that I would be on it for life. She tried backing me down to 5mg and ended up with a bad flare up. I take Enbrel and Leflunomide along with prednisone. Iā€™m currently on 7.5mg prednisone

I have been on 10mg of Prednisone daily for over 22 years. Each time a Dr would lower my dosage to get me off Prednisone, I would end up in the hospital. It was too much, too soon. So... I took matter's into my own hands and very gradually lowered the dosage by 1/4mg on the 1st of each month. This way I am tricking my body into not noticing the lowered dose. I am happy to say that I am now down to 6mg daily with no relapse. I get my prescription of Prednisone in 1mg tablets instead of the 5mg so I can break them into quarters when needed. I take 3mg at breakfast and 3mg at dinner. (I never take my daily dose of prednisone once a day. I always split it up).

I had been on 10 mg of prednisone then decreased by 1 mg every month till I was off after ten months . also on methotrexate. Two months after finishing prednisone ,I had a really bad flareup. I'm back on 4 mg for one month then decreasing to 2 .she wants to keep me on this small dosage. She says some people need a little something in their body at all times .
