Members overwhelmingly confirmed that prednisone leaves a bitter, metallic taste in the mouth, with many describing it as lingering for hours even after swallowing the pills quickly with water. Several members shared practical strategies to minimize the unpleasant taste, including swallowing pills with tea or flavored drinks, taking water first before the pill, eating chocolate pudding or butterscotch candy afterward, and tossing the pills to the back of the throat to avoid touching the tongue. A recurring theme was that the taste intensity can vary by manufacturer and dosage, with higher doses making it worse, and many members also noted side effects like dry mouth, mood swings, increased hunger, and weight gain that accompany prednisone use.

What I found works to really help with the taste for me at least, is to take pills the way I was taught to take my methotrexate as a kid as it was hard for me to deal with the taste as well. I put water or in the case of my prednisone I use tea as it has a stronger taste to help, I put that in my mouth first and then poke the pills through my lips and swollen real fast. I know it sounds silly but it works!! I don't really every taste the pills and it helps getting larger pills down too! Hope this helps!!

Yes. I try to throw the pills in my mouth with one toss and gulp something flavored. Then I do a little dance !!

Absolutely!
I drink an entire glass of water with my prednisone and I can still taste it. I eat a chocolate pudding cup with the pill. It covers the taste pretty good.
