Has Anyone Ever Joined An In-person Support Group?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I have been poking around on the internet to try and find a group near me for face-to-face meetups. So far no luck, but I'm interested to see if anyone has found a group for RA or Chronic Illnesses that has been helpful. I like this site a lot, but I would love the chance to meet people in person in a group setting.

I have a friend who had the same problem... She had fibromyalgia- She started her own group- Now she's developed a lot of other health problems and is unable to continue running the group, so I'm running it. I'm not the best at it, but as the situation arose, I know how wonderful it is to have, so I keep it going! It's a major part of my life!

Thanks Catylee! I am sure it will come up when the time is right. I will have to stay tuned with the Arthritis chapter here too.

Sorry you have not had any luck, esp. with the local arthritis foundation. I think it's terrible that they aren't responding to you. Your local arthritis chapter should have activities (fund raisers) throughout the year, and that might be a good way to connect with others. Maybe someone already has a support group that you are unaware of. Hang in there!

Hi, and yes. I was part of a support group that met at a local YMCA. There was no group established near me, so I began one. It was a great help. Unfortunately, as my RA progressed, I could no longer keep up with everything to plan the meetings and etched. You may want to think of starting one. Check with your local arthritis foundation or your local YMCA. There are classes for those with arthritis, so you would already have a member base. It was a great way to reach out to those people. Many were looking for a group as well.
