Does Anyone Here Have Chest Pains Caused By RA?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Cartersville, GA

I have RA and have chest pain. My old Dr. Told me to quit smoking (I have never smoked). My PCP took xrays didn't see any problem. Just want to find cause of pain.

John, chest pains is go to the ER NOW. Do not wait, do not hesitate, run red lights <3
Because RA does affect every single part of your body including your heart, lungs, stomach, liver, kidneys, and the medications we take for RA do a 2nd round of affecting our body onthe inside with our heart, lungs, stomach, liver, kidneys, infections, nodules, you just do NOT know what could be going on.
ER is the best place to tell you as they can do every single possible test there in a matter of hours so you have an answer and do not have to drive all over town to every other doctor who then tries to fit you in somewhere for those tests and it takes 6 months to find anything out.

One of your Docs should have done a EKG, and a ultra sound at least with chest pains. Heck they do those on me in ER and I do not go in for chest pains, LOL.

I think it depends on what you mean by chest pain. There is a related condition, costochondritis, that is essentially the inflammation of the cartilage that connects your ribs to your sternum. I have had that a few times and it is very painful. But, anytime you have chest pain you need to be insistent with your doctor on finding the cause.

I have had chest pains since before I was diagnosed at 19. The rib cage gets inflamed along with the sternum when mine gets really bad you can see the swelling at the base of the sternum. I thought mine was my heart because the pains are so similar

I have had some light chest pain but I'm trying to quit smoking so blamed it on the cigs. Maybe it's RA as well ? I'm on Mtx and Humira.
