My left knee feels great but still healing. My right knee prosthesis is infected and will require more surgery in January. The surgeon used a different type of prosthesis this time around so they'd last longer than three years. The first replacements had the type that sits over the bone (this is the most common type). I had a different surgeon this time around. I wish I'd had him the first time. He uses a different type on RA patients knowing that the disease will continue to erode away bone making hardware failure more likely in a shorter amount of time. My best advise is to ask every potential surgeon how they would approach replacement surgery on a RA patient to get a maximum result. Replacements are designed to last a lot longer now so even with active RA disease we should get up to 10+ years from a replacement if you have a surgeon who's familiar with our disease and makes surgical plan adjustments accordingly.

I'm over 40 now but, had double hip replacements at the same time while I was in my mid-late 30's. Very easy surgery with regards to pain and rehab. Very little pain. They had me on my feet within 18 hours of surgery. I spent about 6 days in-patient rehab. It took around 2 months for me to go back to work.

Thanks. I'll probably schedule the other hip at my follow-up appointment next month. I'll make sure to post it to the team.
I can imagine the pain of a revision. I'm sorry you've had to go through it, with another surgery in Jan for an infection! That just sucks. Stay strong and keep fighting.

That sounds similar to my experience. It was the excruciating pain in my hips that sent me to the doctor. I was already seeing a rheumy for my fibromyalgia. I mentioned the pain to him, he saw joint space on an xray and referred me to an Ortho surgeon. The Ortho surgeons tried injections and PT. Which of course didn't work.

My rheumy finally used an ultrasound to diagnose me since I'm Seronegative. Come to think of it, I've had smaller joints like my thumbs, wrist, and shoulders, but not as bad as my hips.
