Enbrel With Strep Throat

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Toledo, OH

Hello everyone ...I got strep throat and went on antibiotics this past Monday for 10 days. Without even thinking about it I took my enbrel injection yesterday. This is my 3rd weekly injection. I am now reading that you should stop Enbrel until antibiotics are done. Does anyone know anything about this and what will happen since I took my Enbrel on my strep antibiotics? Feeling concerned :/

Yep the prevention of infection has become a top priority for me. Stopped my charity work at a settlement for underprivileged children and eldery becsuse of the danger of infections and TB. I only do the background stuff now and let others go into the settlement. I have to use wipes constantly when at the shops etc so I don't touch my face with dirty hands. I even wipe the handle of trolleys at shops and every item I touch I need to wipe my hands again and wash items when I get home. Crazy I know but essential as I'm fighting for my life here. I ask if friends and family are sick before I go visit or if they are coming to my place. My life is worth the effort, I've got so much to still do, see and enjoy.

I've had two walk-in clinics prescribe antibiotics that potentially have a severe toxic interaction with methotrexate. Thankfully my pharmacist caught it. Even though I told the doctors at the time I was in methotrexate. Still learning but my pharmacist gave me a info sheet to take with me anytime I see a walk in instead of my regular gp

I am on Enbrel. I just completed taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection. My rheumatologist told me to skip the injection until I am better. The reason is because Enbrel is a biologic. Biologic's will make the strept (or whatever the infection is) take longer to heal. Biologic weakens the immune system. I hope you feel better soon. I would recommend calling your provider and working out a plan if you ever have to take another antibiotic.
