TMJ is one of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Get a night guard made by your dentist. Wear it every night. It helps keep you from grinding at night in your sleep. Pay attention to when you are stressed in the daytime. Do you clinch your teeth?

One thing I find helpful is to take and puff up one cheek at a time as big as I can and hold it there until it is no longer uncomfortable. Do both sides and it helps relax those muscles that work that joint. (my puffer fish imitation) I also open my mouth as wide as I can to stretch things out (my wide mouth frog imitation).

There are massage therapists who do massage that particular problem but I found the cure to be worse than the problem was. Painful to say the least. But that is me and apparently it works well for others.

A gentler massage is the area just behind your ear near the jaw joint. Mild pressure on that helps to calm it down as well.

Do you scrunch your shoulders up when you are in pain? Stop that.

Do you roll your shoulder forward when you are in pain? Stop that.

Those two will also set in motion the TMJ type pain issues as well as stress headaches and neck and shoulder pain.

I got myself some pool noodles, the smaller ones are better under my neck but the slightly larger is okay. I lay with it under my neck and it helps relax the neck muscles which I turn helps me relax and fall asleep, even when I am in pain. I cut them to the length I need, just enough to fit under my neck.

As you can tell this one is a problem I am currently focusing on for myself.

I do! I clench my jaws as I'm trying to go to sleep. Sometimes sleep doesn't come for a while so it gets worse as the night goes on. My neck and shoulders have always been one of my most painful areas. I take a morphine as soon as I wake up.

I do daily. Unfortunately I just have to rotate between Tylenol and Motrin. I thought the jaw pain was all in my head. My doctor prescribed Mobic which helps. Also I find I clench my jaw a lot when stressed and grind my teeth in my sleep. Relaxation techniques help, but as a working mother of three that can be hard to find time for. Best advice try what you can within reason, talk to your doctor and try the most non medicated ways to assist with the pain so later on your body won't become immune to them.
