So far, all I've taken is Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine, Prednisone and now I'm currently on Enbrel. The prednisone definitely caused some weight gain, along with many other horrible side effects that I refuse to take it anymore. But I'm experiencing some weight gain while taking Enbrel and was wondering if anyone else experienced weight gain from any RA meds.

Although I haven't taken it for over 20 years, Prednisone caused me to gain weight.

I have been on 10 tabs of Methotrx for the last 3 yrs, various doses of Pred. (25 mg-1.5mg) for 3 yrs, and Enbril for 1 yr. All I know is that over the last 3 years, I have gained 30 lbs and have what they refer to as the "Prednisone hump" (back of neck), and the "Prednisone Belly" (abdomin). Ugh , I hate them!!!!

Gabapentin also causes weight gain as does Arava. I am on both and am being told to lose weight. :( Prednisone not only caused me to gain a lot of weight but also caused me to get sever osteoporosis in my hips and spine and cataracts in my eyes.

Prednisone has certainly increased my appetite! Not active much now either, so losing, or even maintaining, weight is a struggle.
