RA And An Assistance Dog Question

A myRAteam Member asked a question πŸ’
Alfred, ME

My Rheumatologist suggested that I think about getting an Assistance Dog to help. I'm not quite sure how a dog might help and unsure how I would take care of it. Do any of you have an Assistance Dog? How do they help? Do you have trouble taking care of him/her?

An RA friend of mine has an assistance dog. She says the dog retrieves items for her, alerts family members if she needs assistance and provides comfort when she is home alone.

I have been thinking about it and looking into it but keep hesitating. There is a site ECAD.org or something close to that out of Dobbs Ferry NY that are now excepting applications, but still hesitating - which may be telling me something - they do tell you how the dog can assist you etc.
